Defining Democracy

Can our democracy still be saved? With graphic design?
Certainly not alone, but with the help of innovative infographics, flowcharts, … we want to contribute to a better understanding of political structures, institutions and democratic processes and make them accessible to a large public.
In the center of our project, is the comparison of our democratic legal system, with the one in Israel, which currently experiences a large, social discourse, by intended changes of the current government.
But also in Germany, the future of democracy is increasingly discussed in recent years. The fact that our decades-old system is not a sure-fire success is evident from the declining voter turnout and an increasingly loud disenchantment with and rejection of democracy in Germany as well.

In this project, we are working closely with law students from Israel and Germany and coordinating with Israeli design students on the visual concepts. A traveling exhibition is planned at various locations in Israel and Germany. In addition, an Internet presence in conjunction with social media is intended to reach as broad a public as possible and interest it in the topic.

The comparison of different democratic systems helps, in the best case, to see one’s own parliamentary system with different eyes and to be able to better formulate possible, necessary changes in the future.

For the preparation and organization of the project, it may be necessary to meet with the cooperation partners before the official start of the project (via Zoom).

Ist unsere Demokratie noch zu retten? Mit Grafik-Design? Bestimmt nicht allein, aber wir wollen mit Hilfe von innovativen Infografiken, Flussdiagrammen, … einen Beitrag zum besseren Verständnis von politischen Strukturen, Institutionen und demokratischen Prozessen bekommen und einer großen Öffentlichkeit zugänglich machen. Im Zentrum unseres Projekts, steht der Vergleich unseres demokratischen Rechtssystems mit dem in Israel, dass zurzeit einen großen, gesellschaftlichen Diskurs, durch angestrebte Änderungen der derzeitigen Regierung, erlebt. Aber auch in Deutschland wird über die Zukunft der Demokratie in den letzten Jahren vermehrt diskutiert. Das unser jahrzehntealtes System kein Selbstläufer ist, wird an sinkenden Wahlbeteiligungen und einer immer lauter werden Verdrossenheit und Ablehnung der Demokratie auch in Deutschland deutlich. Wir arbeiten in diesem Projekt eng mit Jurastudenten aus Israel und Deutschland zusammen und stimmen uns mit israelischen Designstudenten über die visuellen Konzepte ab. Geplant ist eine Wanderausstellung an verschiedenen Orten in Israel und Deutschland. Darüber hinaus soll durch einen Internetauftritt in Verbindung mit Social-Media eine möglichst breite Öffentlichkeit erreicht und für das Thema interessiert werden. Der Vergleich von unterschiedlichen demokratischen Systemen, hilft im besten Fall, dass eigene parlamentarische System mit anderen Augen zu sehen und mögliche, nötige Änderungen in der Zukunft besser formulieren zu können. Zur Vorbereitung und Organisation des Projekts, kann es notwendig sein, sich schon vor dem offiziellen Projektstart zu angekündigten Terminen mit den Kooperationspartnern zu treffen (via Zoom).
