Service Design City of Cologne | Service Design Stadt Köln

In collaboration with the City of Cologne’s Innovation Office, the City of Cologne Library, and other municipal and civil society actors, we are reimagining the role of the city library as a democratic, social, and digital space, particularly in light of the social challenges that will emerge over the next five to ten years. Together, we are developing sustainable proposals for a resilient, open and inclusive urban society.

The project is based on a thorough analysis of the City Library’s current and future requirements. Topics such as social division, unequal opportunities for participation, isolation, digital transformation, the climate crisis, and anti-democratic tendencies will inform the identification of possible solutions. Our goal is to prototype a service/product-service system that will support the city of Cologne and its residents in their inclusive development.

Knowledge of German is helpful but not necessary. The project will be conducted in English.

Zusammen mit dem Innovationsbüro der Stadt Köln, der Stadtbibliothek der Stadt Köln und weiteren städtischen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Akteur:innen arbeiten wir daran dir Rolle der Stadtbibliothek als demokratischer, sozialer und digitaler Ort weiterzudenken – insbesondere im Hinblick auf die gesellschaftlichen Herausforderungen der nächsten fünf bis zehn Jahre. Gemeinsam entwickeln wir zukunftsfähige Vorschläge für eine resiliente, offene und inklusive Stadtgesellschaft.

Ausgangspunkt des Projekts ist eine umfassende Analyse der gegenwärtigen und zukünftigen Anforderungen an die Stadtbibliothek. Themen wie soziale Spaltung, ungleiche Teilhabechancen, Vereinsamung, digitale Transformation, Klimakrise und antidemokratische Tendenzen bilden dabei den inhaltlichen Rahmen für die Identifikation möglicher Lösungen. Ziel ist die prototypische Umsetzung eines Services / Product-Service-Systems, welches die Stadt Köln und deren Bewohner:innen in einer inklusiven Entwicklung unterstützt.

Deutschkenntnisse sind hilfreich, aber nicht notwendig. Das Projekt wird auf Englisch durchgeführt.
