Vitalizing MiniBib

A few years ago, the so-called MiniBib was opened in Cologne-Chorweiler – an architecturally high-quality space designed to provide children and young people with access to cultural education, democratic participation, and social interaction.

The core objective of the present project is to ensure and expand the MiniBib’s opening hours over the long term. To achieve this, sustainable structures will be established that enable committed volunteers to take responsibility for ensuring the reliable accessibility of the space. The aim is to develop an organizationally clearly defined, low-threshold, and sustainably functioning volunteer model.

In parallel, research will be conducted to systematically assess the needs of local residents in Chorweiler. In particular, the project will examine:

• which expectations and needs exist within the neighborhood,
• how the MiniBib is currently perceived,
• which barriers to access may be present, and
• which usage potentials remain untapped.

The findings will serve as the basis for concrete measures to further open up the space, strengthen its integration within the neighborhood, and develop the MiniBib into a vibrant, community-supported place.

In Köln-Chorweiler wurde vor einigen Jahren die sogenannte MiniBib eröffnet – ein architektonisch qualitätsvoller Raum, der Kindern und Jugendlichen Zugang zu kultureller Bildung, demokratischer Teilhabe und sozialer Begegnung ermöglichen soll.

Im Zentrum des vorliegenden Projekts steht die langfristige Sicherung und Ausweitung der Öffnungszeiten. Dafür sollen tragfähige Strukturen aufgebaut werden, die es engagierten Ehrenamtlichen ermöglichen, Verantwortung für die verlässliche Zugänglichkeit des Ortes zu übernehmen. Ziel ist die Entwicklung eines organisatorisch klar definierten, niedrigschwelligen und nachhaltig funktionierenden Ehrenamtsmodells.

Parallel dazu wird eine Recherche durchgeführt, um die Bedürfnisse der Anwohnerinnen und Anwohner in Chorweiler systematisch zu erfassen. Untersucht werden sollen insbesondere:

• welche Erwartungen und Bedarfe im Quartier bestehen,
• wie die MiniBib aktuell wahrgenommen wird,
• welche Zugangsbarrieren existieren,
• und welche Nutzungspotenziale bislang unerschlossen sind.

Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse bilden die Grundlage für konkrete Maßnahmen zur stärkeren Öffnung, besseren Verankerung im Stadtteil und zur Weiterentwicklung der MiniBib als lebendiger, gemeinschaftlich getragener Ort.
