Societies today face common challenges in delivering the best possible quality of life in a way that is economically sustainable. Design thinking offers a highly effective methodology for squaring this circle and connecting with citizens — at all levels of the public sector, and from services to policy…” (Design for Public Good)
Governments and public sector organisations across the world experiment with design and innovation methods to support organisational change. The role of design in the public sector is rapidly expanding.
Along with these changes there comes the need to better understand design in that context and to critically reflect on its practice, role, and ethical responsibilities.
This seminar explores the intersection of design, social innovation, and public policy. What does design in the public sector look like? What role does it play? And what transformation potential does it have?
We will explore design for social and public impact through the discussion of international case studies, the review of relevant literature, and the exploration of design methodo-logies and emerging research questions. Learn what design looks like in the public sector, the role it plays, and the new spaces it might open up. Hacking the public sector – a new generation for design?
