Explore the realm of immersive audio, also known as “multi-channel” or “surround sound” audio through hands-on interaction in this two-part project.
Learn more about its rich history, from Stockhausen’s experiments in Cologne’s WDR studios that shaped electronic music as we know it today, to its current widespread use in cinemas, Dolby Atmos, VR (binaural audio), art installations, and training simulations.
Using the Living Objects Lab’s new 8.1-channel Genelec system, you’ll create your own interactive sound experience, (probably) exhibited at Köln Passagen ’24.
The project will be led by Connor Shafran, a graduate of the Electroacoustic Music Studio at Hanns Eisler Berlin. His compositions for 24-channel Loudspeaker Orchestra have been played at contemporary festivals like Klangwerkstatt and Kontakte, and his pioneering work developing new live electronic performance techniques has been recognized by entities such as Ableton and the Eastman School of Music in NY, among others.
