In the ANTHROBOT project, the DIPHTONG collective (Stephanie Felber, Nikos Konstantakis & team) develops a theater performance that deals with our relationship to the increasingly “intelligent” machines that surround us. DIPHTONG addresses the dialogue between humans and robots, with a focus on the generation gap. With the guiding question of what mediating role technology can play in interpersonal relationships, encounters between a child, a senior, and a non-human actor – a robot configured for the performance project – are explored.
As part of this engagement, we at KISD are exploring the possibilities of performance formats with robots – in close collaboration with the artists of DIPHTONG. Supported by engineer Cihan Subaşı, we are working on the design of human-robot interaction in theater and performance contexts, using KISD’s new robotic arm and the robotics equipment of Protolab and Living Objects Lab.
The results of this work will be incorporated into the production of the ANTHROBOT performance, which will be shown at Kunsthafen Köln this winter.
