Concept and planning of GDI - Global Design Initiative Cologne 2025

This project is developing the concept and setting the outline for the workshop of the Global Design Initiative 2025 in Cologne. KISD will host the workshop with students and faculty from our GDI partner members in Singapore (Lasalle College of the Arts), Tokyo (Musashino Art University), London (Central Saint Martins, ual) and Taipei (SCID, Shih-Chien University of Design). As a guest, we will have SIVA (Shanghai Insititute of Visual Arts) with students and faculty as well.

At the heart of this project is the design of the framework of the workshop in Cologne, building on the topic of „Alternative Community“ allowing us to get in dialogue (and collaboration) with 3 different communities and places where those communities are acting. Based on key aspects of the Cologne Food System we will get in touch with different people of communities actively engaging in new modes of producing, processing and consuming food. Place is another important aspect, as we want to make sure that all students and faculty have the opportunity to engage in concrete activities – and maybe make more people (of various communities) as a new type of partners of our global initiative.

For the week we will have an existing structure to refer to and build on. On Saturday, we will have a global 1-day KISDconference with all faculty on site (and potential partners from our network particiapting remotely). The existing website will be used and updated, all communication material developped. It is planned to have previous GDI participants of KISD both for the project to prepare the workshop, but also during the workshop and conference.

Dieses Projekt entwickelt das Konzept und den Rahmen für den Workshop der Global Design Initiative 2025 in Köln. Die KISD wird den Workshop mit Studenten und Dozenten unserer GDI-Partner in Singapur (Lasalle College of the Arts), Tokio (Musashino Art University), London (Central Saint Martins, ual) und Taipeh (SCID, Shih-Chien University of Design) ausrichten. Im Mittelpunkt dieses Projekts steht die Gestaltung des Rahmens für den Workshop in Köln, der auf dem Thema „Alternative Community“ aufbaut und es uns ermöglicht, mit drei verschiedenen Gemeinschaften und Orten, an denen diese Gemeinschaften agieren, in Dialog (und Zusammenarbeit) zu treten. Ausgehend von Schlüsselaspekten des Kölner Lebensmittelsystems werden wir mit verschiedenen Menschen aus Gemeinschaften in Kontakt treten, die sich aktiv für neue Formen der Produktion, der Verarbeitung und des Konsums von Lebensmitteln einsetzen. Der Ort ist ein weiterer wichtiger Aspekt, da wir sicherstellen wollen, dass alle Studenten und Dozenten die Möglichkeit haben, sich in konkreten Aktivitäten zu engagieren – und vielleicht mehr Menschen (aus verschiedenen Gemeinschaften) als eine neue Art von Partnern für unsere globale Initiative zu gewinnen.

Während der Woche werden wir eine bestehende Struktur haben, auf die wir uns beziehen und auf der wir aufbauen können. Am Samstag werden wir eine eintägige KISD-Konferenz mit allen Lehrkräften vor Ort abhalten (und potenziellen Partnern aus unserem Netzwerk, die aus der Ferne teilnehmen). Die bestehende Website wird genutzt und aktualisiert, sämtliches Kommunikationsmaterial wird entwickelt. Es ist geplant, frühere GDI-Teilnehmer der KISD sowohl für das Projekt zur Vorbereitung des Workshops, als auch während des Workshops und der Konferenz einzubeziehen.
