There was a time when it was believed that the true, the good, and the beautiful somehow went hand in hand. This character never disappeared completely. Just think of the HFG Ulm and their idea of “good form” as the unity of practicality and beauty, which was was supposed to serve as a corrective to market-based imperatives and produce morally desirable effects. But what do we think of that? We hold back for now, because first we have to develop an idea of what the “good” and the “beautiful” are actually supposed to be. For this purpose, in this seminar we will read relevant texts from the discipline of philosophy that deals with the question of what is “good”.
