International Design Experimental Meeting

The 24th International Design Experimental Meeting will take place in Redu, in the Belgian Ardennes from 20-27 October 2023. Around 10 international design schools will meet to work in an interdisciplinary, intercultural and experimental design workshop. The workshop consists of practical working groups, lectures and discussions as well as an international discourse on the overall topic.

In the end we’ll have a presentation and celebration.
This IDEMs Topic is “Beauty” a highly subjective, relative term full of stereotypes and social dependencies. Beauty seams to have become a taboo within design education and if so, is this for a reason? Is beauty the neglected power we need, to address future challenges? Or is beauty a highly problematic ingredient to a fully designed world.
And what do you consider beautiful?

Shortly about IDEM:
IDEM is an international network existing since 1985. Meanwhile in total 23 international gatherings of design and art schools have taken place across the globe. IDEM is an alive and experimental convention based on exchange, discourse and practical research. The weeklong workshops are packed with inspirational input, intense and fun work within international, intercultural groups. Works carried out within one week are presented in a final presentation somewhere in-between exhibition and performance. Alongside IDEM is a great place to get to know designers from other parts of the planet, exchange on ideas, ways of working and skills. IDEM has been a starting point for international friendships ever since.

Costs:
The participation fee is partly covered by funding of the International Committee.

120€ p.P. have to be paid by the the individual student. This includes accommodation for the entire stay, all meals, field trips.. with others words: 17€ per day all inclusive.

Travel expenses to Redu and back have to be paid by the individual students (but probably we can share a hired car. It’s a 3h drive >4h by train)

Selection Process:
In case of registration numbers exceeding the available spaces, the decision will be made by drawing lots.
