In this online seminar, we will explore the history and emerging frontiers of service design. Together, we will trace how the discipline has evolved—from its roots in design management and service marketing to its current role as a strategic approach for addressing complex societal and organizational challenges.
We will examine foundational frameworks such as the Double Diamond and Design for Services, and discuss how they are being reframed through contemporary perspectives including systems thinking, planet-centered design, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence. Particular attention will be given to how these theories inform service transformation in both the public and private sectors.
Each week, we will focus on a key concept, theory, or paper that marks a pivotal moment or new direction in the field, helping you critically position your own service design practice. The seminar combines lectures, structured group work, peer review, and discussion. It will be conducted online and in English. Prior knowledge of service design is helpful but not required.
