People love to hit “something” with “something” at a certain distance. Whether it’s crumpled paper in the wastepaper basket, balls on cans or projectiles of all kinds on targets.
There is a reason why real or imitation firearms are not suitable as toys, and any trivialisation of war and violence is to be rejected. Question: Is it possible to have fun with a device that “shoots things” without necessarily associating it with war and weapons?
In this project, we will look at the very popular “Nerf blasters”, which try (more or less successfully) to avoid military-aggressive connotations by using comic-like shapes and intense colours.
We will design, develop and build “something” for these – extremely harmless – soft foam dart blasters. This is not about simple targets, but about effects and mechanisms that enable new game principles and forms.
Functional prototypes will be built and played with in detail during the presentation. The project is suitable for those who can combine extreme silliness with serious work …
