Schriften über Schriften | Publications about fonts

Over the past few decades, a large number of books have been published on typography and designing with type. The contents range from the history of type, the development of our current type systems, the role and function of type in the respective period, to practical instructions in the design process.
In the seminar, we want to get an overview of the analog and digital literature on offer, learn something about the authors, deepen individual examples with practical work and develop a written review of the individual specialist publications / sources.
The aim is to provide other students with a quick overview of the sources of information on typography at the end of the seminar and to make recommendations.

In den vergangenen Jahrzehnten sind eine Vielzahl an Büchern über Typografie und die Gestaltung mit Schrift veröffentlicht worden. Die Inhalte reichen von der Schriftgeschichte, der Entwicklung unserer heutigen Schriftsysteme, über die Rolle und Funktion von Schrift in der jeweiligen Zeit, bis hin zu praktischen Anleitungen im Gestaltungsprozess. Wir wollen uns in dem Seminar ein Überblick über das analoge und digitale Angebot der Literatur machen, etwas über die Autor:innen erfahren, einzelne Beispiele mit praktischen Arbeiten vertiefen und eine schriftliche Rezension zu den einzelnen Fachpublikationen / -quellen erarbeiten. Ziel soll es sein, am Ende des Seminars anderen Studierenden einen schnellen Überblick über die Informationsquellen zur Typografie zu bieten und Empfehlungen auszusprechen.
