“Worldbuilding” (also used in German), is “the invention of a fictional world and its geography, biology, cultures, etc., especially for use as a setting for science fiction …”
(Oxford Dictionary of Science Fiction)
We will look at science fiction films (in a broader sense): not classically “cinematic”, but according to design concepts.
Which settings, buildings, artefacts or behaviours are are used to represent the “future” or “parallel world”? Were older films prophetic – or just silly? In this seminar we will watch, examine and analyse recent and older films.
Please note: the seminar will be held in English!
In addition to preparing a paper or presentation on a film, reliable viewing of the film in question, mental (and physical!) presence, and continuous, active oral participation will be expected.
