Building on this year´s Global Hybrid Winter School in January, a week dedicated to exploring the intricate connections between Soil, Place, and Care, we will meet students and faculty from all participating schools (Barcelona, Glasgow, Bratislava, Naryn – and maybe Beijing) to proceed on site.
Our journey of the week will be inspired by Puig de la Bellacasa’s (2017) perspective on care, which invites us to see soil through a lens where organisms and their interactions are not mere components, but the very essence of what soil is. This approach compels us to appreciate the numerous life forms and processes within soil, recognising its role as a dynamic, living system.
Moreover, our exploration extends to understanding the role of soil in our communities. Soil is a cornerstone of ecosystems, agriculture, and even our cultural practices. It shapes our sense of place and identity. In studying soil, we uncover stories of interaction, dependency, and coexistence.
