Things to know when renting an apartment in Germany

Do you know the meaning of “Attest” or “Beipackzettel”? You might hear them when you go to see a doctor or want to buy medication at a pharmacy. Find out more about these and some other most important words you will ever need when looking for medical care in the illustrated dictionary “First Aid” by the Deutsches Studentenwerk.

The German Academic Exchange Service published Information on the Legal Requirements Applicable to the Pursuit of Gainful Employment by Foreign Students, University Graduates Scientists and Other Academics.

The options open to foreign students, university graduates, visiting scientists and other
academics from non-EU states for taking up gainful employment are governed, above all, by
the Residence Act and the Employment Regulation. For EU nationals, the Freedom of
Movement Act/EU is of relevance. However, other laws and regulations may also apply to
the subject matter described in the following.

This information sheet makes no claim to completeness and reflects the status as of August

Münster is a beautiful city and definitely worth seeing. It has a very nice city museum and a Picasso Museum, a lake, a star-formed botanic garden behind the castle and much more. I was there for a day this October and enjoyed it very much! Like in Aachen there are bikes everywhere but Müster also got a street just for bikes!

The Gasometer Oberhausen is a former gas holder in Oberhausen, which has been converted into an exhibition space. It has hosted several large scale exhibitions, including one by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, which is going till the end of december 2013. The Gasometer is an industrial landmark, and an anchor point of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and the Industrial Heritage Trail. It was built in the 1920s, but largely reconstructed after World War II.
I was there this summer, when I did a bicycle tour through the Ruhrpot. It is huge, I can tell! I was at the big air package, the Christo and Jeanne-Claude exhibition. Next to it there is the tree2tree climbing area, I guess in winter they’re closed but I was there a few years ago and it was a lot of fun!  Also not far away there is the Rhein-Herne-Kanal where you can swim in summer (that’s also a lot of fun ; )

Aachen is a historical town in NRW. Its over 2000 year-old. The Aachen Cathedral is in the List of World Heritage Site. Visit the Elisen fountain and stroll through the Christmas market. Every year before Christmas the squares and streets round the Cathedral and the town hall are transformed into a paradise of lights and colours, festive sounds and seductive smells.
I was there at the Christmas market last winter, it was drizzling and very very cold but I enjoyed it very much, bought some Aachener Printen and also visited the Cathedral, which is beautiful!

The Dortmunder U is a former beer brewery and shows artworks from 20th and 21st centuries, develops innovative concepts of cultural education in the digital age, initiates partnerships between art and science, and cooperates with different players in the context of creative industries.
I was there a few times e.g. at the ‘moving types’ exhibition. It was really interesting. And at the top there is a observation deck where you can go for free and see the howl city!

This one is a little more mainstream, concerning lots of clubs and locations in which also the music is more mainstream:

This one also offers information about pubs, bars and a little more alternative clubs:
